BRIEF HISTORY:
The Diocese of Isiolo was split from Meru Diocese end of 1995. It covers the district of Isiolo in the Eastern Province of Kenya.  The colonial government never allowd Catholism to be established in the area by then, so the missionaries form Meru-Mujwa later Meru Cathedral used to come to celebrate the mass once in a while for th esmall Goan community in their club in Isiolo.

The Consolata Missionaries did an excellent job serving this small community.  After Madarak day in June 1963, the bishop of Meru by then, Rt. Rev. Victor Bessone was given a leeway to initiate a mission in Isiolo District.  He mandated the late Fr. Luigi Locati who was the first bishop to e in charge of the whole apostolate in the district in 1964.  Fr. Pio Bono folowed him at the end of Novermber 1968.

In 1970, another priest, Fr. Guido Pezzana was sent then followed by Deacon Franco Givone, who was later ordained and appointed the Assistant Parish Priest of Isiolo Mssion.  The following priests and sisters followed: Fr. Pino Ferrarotti, Fr. Luciano Pasteris, Daughters of St Eusebius (Sisters)

The late Rt. Rev. Luigi Locati in 1964 moved to Isiolo and started a mission thus becoming the pioneer of the Catholic evangelisaiton amog the pastoralists of Isiolo district.  In December 28, 1995, he was elected the first bishop of the new ecclesiastical territory, now known as the Apostolic Vicariate of Isiolo.  His fruits of evangelization are reflected in 10 parishes spread in Isiolo District and the social development activities coupled with educaitonal institutions among other institutions.

Rt. Rev. Luigi Locati was brutally murdered on July 14, 2005.  He is buried in the cript of St. Eusebius Cathedral Isiolo.
