BRIEF HISTORY:
Malindi diocese is located in the Coast Province of Kenya. Malindi district climate is hot and humid.
The Diocese of Malindi was erected in June 2000 with Rt. Rev. Francis Baldacchino of OFM Cap as its first Bishop. The new ecclesiastical circumscription is composed of the whole District of Malindi, taken from the Archdiocese of Mombasa and the southern half of the Tana River District and the whole of Lamu District, taken from the Diocese of Garissa.
The Rt. Rev. Francis Baldacchino was consecrated Bishop of Malindi on 4 September 2000. SInce 1984 he has been the Vicar General of the DIocese of Garissa until his nomination as the first Bishop of the new Diocese of Malindi. At the same time he served in various positions as Regional Superior of the Capuchin Custodia of Kenya (later elevated to Vice-Province), counsellor and seminary formator. Bishop Baldacchino died on October 9, 2009, while undergoing medical treatment in Malta.
